ARTIST INTERVIEW MONDAY: Anisha LaBelle

"It’s best to live and create purely for yourself and the message that you want to share with your audience"

We love your MUSIC! Tell us what kind of trend you want to make with your music?

My favorite kind of songs now are the ones which get stuck in my head and make me want to sing. Not only do I place importance on the lyrics, but I find the beat choice very important when it comes to creating the overall vibe- it can make or break a song in my opinion. I also love sounds from the early 2000’s, I miss the good feelings that kind of music had during the time period. I’d love to create music that embodies the brightness of early pop music with my own twist. I hope to bring a new take on pop music!

What are the trends you want to stay away from when it comes to your music?

I’d prefer if my music stayed away from any sounds that are too heavy or even depressing. If I’d like to portray darker emotions, I tend to do so in a way which is still appealing to my own style.

Can you tell us the genre of music you are most interested in making?

I make pop music, sometimes with rap or R&B influences.

Do you think you want to explore other genres?

For sure, different styles of music can be very beneficial when it comes to conveying certain emotions. I am really enjoying the idea that pop and rap are becoming intertwined genres at this point in time. I find that the quick, lyrical nature of both genres are great for storytelling, and a good verse can definitely add some catchy elements to empower a song. I also think it’s inspiring that more women are entering into this genre, and I would love to combine that with my love for pop music!

Has your confidence ever been shaken? How did you overcome it?

Of course, I definitely think it is natural to experience times where you feel anxious or unconfident about your craft. With so many people sharing their journeys to success on social media, it can be easy to compare yourself to others. Sometimes you may feel like you’re behind, but it’s important to remember that everyone is on their own path. It’s best to live and create purely for yourself and the message that you want to share with your audience. I like to reconnect with why I began making music in the first place when I am feeling unsure.

Is there anything that is trending right now in music that you're following?

A lot of artists have embraced being unapologetically themselves, and it’s exciting to see the changes that have been happening in pop culture and the media. I love the different collaborations that have been popping up recently, and I feel like today’s music videos have become more movie-like than ever! It’s a pretty exciting time in music.

What are you expecting to conquer next with your music?

I am currently working to produce my first album, “Heart Expansion”.
